In mid-1959, along with the rest of the Fender line, the Musicmaster was redesigned to use a 2-piece maple neck with rosewood. Though it was one of the lower-end, more inexpensive models, it served its purpose well and remains relatively inexpensive today. Please ask questions before making an offer, as I might just accept it and surprise you before you have thought things through. At a smaller 22.5' scale length, the Musicmaster had one single pickup and two knobs. Payment required within 3 days of winning the item. If posted shipping is more than actual cost, I will refund the difference to you. Anyway, I get a little obsessed with disclosing these things. Logic says to me that a guitar with relatively low wear would have a very low chance of needing a refinish back to original color. This being said, I am not an expert and cannot say with 100% certainty that this is not a refinished body. The earlier light tans appear a lot thinner and do not seem to get the check effect like the darker tan. In my reading, there was a paint change from light tan to darker tan (like my 1960 Musicmaster which has heavily checked body paint) the same time as the aluminum pickguard changed to white plastic and the maple fretboard changed to rosewood. ![]() With the single pickup and bridge cover, this Musicmaster looks really awesome! Pots date to 1957 Penciled n eck date of 1-58 NOTE: No paint checking on the body.I will say that when I recieved it I expected to see some. Kluson tuners are in excellent condition, and these have the center hole in the posts to insert the string end (less bleeding). The gold anodized aluminum pickguard shows that it has been played, body has nicks and dings, but no uglies. The lacquer on the neck and fretboard has checking throughout which looks great. Frets look nearly new, neck is very smooth with a couple of small nicks on the back. Very clean and original except for perhaps the volume and tuner knobs.with the nickel or chrome knurled ones I never know for sure. Same era/same quality as a '58 Strat or Tele, at around 100th of the price :) This guitar is a total blast to play, and I did for an hour last night to say goodbye, but need to sell some stuff. Vintage short-scale electrics are a lot of fun, and this one has its own unique charm and vibe. With the exception of the missing bridge cover it's all original and complete including the brown case. The pickguard is an anodized aluminum pickguard that looks like it came form a pre-'59 Musicmaster, but this guitar also includes a late-'50s black bakelite Duo-Sonic pickguard. The bridge and tuning machines look to be original to the Duo-Sonic side of this guitar, but the pickup, pots, tone cap, and wiring are from a 1965 Musicmaster. At some point in the past, the body was refinished to a tasteful Olympic White that has aged and patina-ed into more of a butterscotch color. ![]() The original nut and original frets still perform beautifully. Interestingly, this Partscaster combines elements of both, and it uses exclusively period-appropriate Fender parts. Cleanest 58 Fender Musicmaster on the planet. Leo unveiled both the Duo-Sonic and the Musicmaster in 1956, and both are 3/4-size guitars with stripped-down features intended for beginning players.
